Botanical Relief: Coastal
Handbuilt Porcelain Vase | Driftwood | 8.5" × 3.75"
Part of the Botanical Relief: Coastal series, this handbuilt porcelain vase is built in two layers — an inner vessel held within an open lattice of hand-applied driftwood branches that climb from a double-knop pedestal base to a fluted rim. The matte white glaze unifies the two structures into a single quiet object, the negative space between the branches as considered as the branches themselves.
Built entirely by hand in porcelain, each branch applied and shaped individually before firing. The matte white glaze deepens to soft warm grey in the recesses between the branches — the same tonal shift found in driftwood bleached by sun and salt. At 1.3 pounds it is the most architectural piece in the series — a sculptural object that holds flowers as naturally as it holds a room's attention on its own.
