Openwork: Coastal — Seaglass

The color is exactly what the name promises — that particular blue-green the ocean leaves behind, worn smooth, luminous without being loud. Uniform celadon glaze covers every surface, interior and exterior alike, so the light that passes through the openwork gaps casts the same soft tone onto whatever surface holds it. The rim is jagged where the form demanded it, organic where the hand allowed it.

Hand-built from stoneware, each opening cut and shaped individually before firing. The even celadon glaze reads differently overhead than at eye level — flatter in direct light, almost watery when the light rakes across it at an angle. No two pieces from this series are identical.
