Queen Anne's lace and yellow wildflowers reach up into a wide summer sky, their stems crossing and leaning as if caught mid-breeze. Tall clouds build against the deep blue above, and the light falls full and clear across the meadow below. The vantage sits low, among the flowers rather than above them, so the field opens upward into all that air and weather.

Painted in oil on canvas, the work builds through layered passes that hold the depth of the sky against the fine, hand-drawn detail of the blooms. The florals emerge from the landscape rather than resting on top of it, worked so that focal detail and open atmosphere read as one continuous space. The original rewards close looking, where the delicate stems and clustered petals resolve against the softness of the distance.
